I was lost; hopelessly lost. The darkness of the forest surrounded me like a thick smothering blanket. But what was I supposed to do? The only thing I could do was run.
Spindly branches tore at me like the fingers of a skeleton and a deathly cold wind rattled the branches of the huge trees around me. Where was I? Where was I going? I wasn't sure, but I pressed on.
     Bad idea.
After a while I could swear that someone was following me; someone unseen.
My mind is just playing tricks on me, I thought. There's no way that anyone could find me here.
     Boy, was I wrong…
I paused for a moment to catch my breath, and I heard footsteps behind me. They were loud and heavy, like the person was wearing thick-soled leather shoes. A shadow passed over a tree next to me. I gasped in shock and took off running.
This was no trick of my mind. There was definitely someone following me now. I could hear their deep raspy breathing.
A strong, cold hand reached out and grabbed my shoulder, and shoved me down onto the forest floor. I tried to scream but found no air in my lungs. My captor wrenched my arms behind my back and bound my wrists with strong, thick rope. I struggled away and kicked at the person in rage. The kidnapper -apparently male- let out an array of curses when my foot connected with his shin. He threw me back down with such force that all the air was knocked out of me, and I felt like my ribs had shattered. He tied my ankles and lifted me up roughly and carried me away, into the darkness of the chilly night.
     And then, there was nothing…
Uhhgghhh. Not sure that anyone will care, but this is a writing piece that I entered in a writing contest. It was supposed to be only for the kids a year older than me, but I'm the best writer in my year so my teacher made a special exception on the condition that she would be the one letting the cat out of the bag, rather than me telling my classmates that I was in the contest.

....I haven't yet found out if my story has been published in the book, but I'll let you know.
